Gossip Bistro, ECR, Chennai

13:46:00

I have heard a lot about Gossip Bistro. So on our way over to Sheraton Grand we stopped over at Gossip Bistro for Lunch. The Bistro is located in Kanathur on ECR with good amount of Car Parking. People traveling on weekends are not gonna have difficulty finding the place or the need to worry about the parking their vehicle.

Food:
We started with Potato Wedges and BBQ Chicken Boneless as my one year old like both of them. The wedges were deep fried with skin and had a dash of cream and spices on it. This made the dish mildly spicy but with a really good zing to it. While the other dish had small morsels of chicken marinated in a typical smokey bbq sauce and shallow fried served along with mayo and blue cheese dip.

While we were munching on this we were served complimentary breads with herbed butter and Ice Lemon Tea.

For our mains we had Penne Cajun Chicken Pasta and Chicken Pot Pie. The Pasta was creamy with a hint of cajun spice which made it delicate. While the latter had a short crust pastry with a serving of chicken, bell peppers and cheese. I found the pastry slightly on the sweeter side, but definitely a tasty dish over all.

The menu does feature Indian dishes as well for the people who want Indian dishes.

Ambiance:
The restaurant design is contemporary with large glass areas to lend adequate light which enhances the appearance.

Service:
Service was good overall even though they were swapped with customers. One minor grouse is the restaurant had only one high chair for kids which was already taken by a group of customers. We had to wait until they were done to get the chair. I really do wish they invest in more high chairs which will drive in more young families.

Price:
This meal cost us 1428/- which we felt was worth the feast we were served.

Price - 8.5 / 10
Ambiance - 9 / 10
Service - 8 / 10
Price - 8 / 10.

Disclaimer - I paid for the meal.

Fusilli Reasons, Kilpauk

21:04:00

All veg dine-outs are becoming popular of late. One such amazing shops is the Fusilli Reasons which has opened its doors at Kilpauk. Though it has been here for a while, I have never had the chance to click proper pictures, as I have failed to carry my DSLR with me. Thankfully my Samsung S6 is doing the trusted duty. So here goes the story.

Food:
A short foodies meet up. So we decided to share, yes SHARE! Nachos, Garlic Bread with Beetroot Mayo, Pasta both Pesto and Cheese types and last but not the least Ice Tea. Nachos was bloody brilliant, loaded to the brim with cheese. Never been a big fan of Pesto, so the Pesto pasta was just flat for me.

The Cheese variant was much better, yummy yumm yumm! To finish it off we had the Garlic Bread toasts with Beetroot Mayo which was simply superb. They do have different toppings for the garlic bread, but we just know that beetroot mayo works the best. To wash all these dishes down we had the smooth Ice Tea.

Ambiance:
A small cafe kind of setup which seats around 12 people at a time. But jam packed all the time.

Service:
Self service.

Price:
The total cost for this meal was Rs 240/-. A very pocket friendly meal.

Food - 8/10
Ambiance - 7/10
Price - 9/10

PS: Pictures shot using Samsung S6

New Town Coffee Shop - The Malaysian Affair

05:46:00

I had been to New Town Cafe recently with a couple of my friends and I had loved the fusion food which was served here. So I took my Mom and Bro here for dinner recently. This time around I was engrossed in trying out the Malay cuisine served at this place. We started of the proceedings by ordering drinks for our thirsty throats. My bro picked Strawberry Ice Tea, whereas my mom picked an Orange Granita and myself picked a very not so healthy Mango Milkshake. Both the Granita and the milkshake tasted fine whereas the Strawberry iced tea's taste was totally disappointing.

Apart from that one bad Strawberry Iced Tea, the other dishes on the table on that the day, rocked. We had ordered  Chicken Canai Wrap and the trusted Stuffed Chicken Leg Mughalai Style. Both the dishes were fabulous. The Chicken Canai wrap had a mild spicy flavor to it. With 12-14 pieces on a plate, this portion can feed 4 with relative ease. We had also ordered for a Smoked Chicken Sandwich, the sandwich as such tasted great, but it was lost in all the flavors which was present in the other dishes.

For the main course too we decided to go with the Chicken Mei Goreg, Roti Canai Chicken and Crusted Chicken with Taragon Sauce. Roti Canai was delicious, it had a late spiciness to it, giving it a deep in your throat spicy feeling. The Roti was super soft and fluffy. Chicken pieces too were small and tasty. Both the other dishes tasted great and were similar to the previous time I had, had it. We were soo stuffed, that we skipped deserts.

The meal for four put us back by Rs2222/-. All of us loved the food, including my mom, who felt satisfied after the meal. The food is a proper malaysian affair.

Service - 8.5/10

Eco Cafe, Chamiers Road

16:33:00

Some of the members of the Chennai Food Guide and I had a rendezvous at the Eco Cafe on Chamiers Road, recently.

I wondered, about its name. But when I entered the cafe, I could not pin point anything that had warranted such a name. Eco Cafe is simply an air conditioned  cafe, with a pleasant ambiance and soft lighting. The cafe had a collection of story books for sale as well.

I waited for sometime, to be joined by other CFG members. The cafe had low light, making photography without flash impossible. Good thing, I had carried my trusted tripod and this helped me click some good snaps. Special thanks to Karthick Ricky, for helping me out with the photos. We sat down and started placing the orders at random from the menu.

All the food which we had ordered had a fabulous presentation, but I cannot  say the same about the taste. The taste of most of the dishes were just about okay, with excessive use of pesto. If you are one of those who do not like pesto, then I am really sorry. You will not like most of the dishes here. I cant understand the relationship between pesto and eco.

That day's dinner, was not a fine dining experience. We fell to eating the food as it came in. We started off the proceedings with an Apple Cinnamon Cake. I am not a big fan of Cinnamon and I must say this cake was not really great. The apple flavor was missing and the cake was a tad hard and cold. There was also a carrot cake, but I skipped having it,wondering how disastrous it might be. Next up I sampled a  pesto topped bruschetta from the platter. The bread was nice and crispy, it had not become soggy because of the topping. I also tried some of the antipasti salad. It was pasta with roasted aubergines and thyme. I know it was a salad and it was not necessary for it to be cooked throughly. But this was crazy. The pasta felt raw, it did not seem to gel well with the ingredients at all.

In between eating, I sampled some of the drinks which were on the table. I took a sip of the Blueberry smoothie, it was little over powered by the presence of banana and it felt like it lacked sufficient blueberry. After this I sampled the cold chocolate and almond. I must say, this drink was really bad. It was like having chocolate cerelac. Wanting to wash away this taste, I took a sample of the pancakes. These pan cakes, were as hard as an adai ( Local dish ). One bad dish to another, I jumped into having waffle with maple syrup. This dish was a savior to my taste palate. It was neither too soft or hard, just about hitting the sweet spot. There was a chocolate waffle, but the chocolate syrup did not taste like chocolate syrup. Maybe they had tried a combo, by mixing chocolate with the maple syrup. I wonder what it could be.

I also sampled the veggie club sandwich, it tasted good. But again I felt the pesto  to be a tad too much. Then I jumped to sample the Pasta Fungi which had pesto, cheese and loads of black olives. This dish too had pesto which I found over powering.

Just when we were getting settled to having only mediocre fare, we were  served some of the delicious dishes of the night. By the time these came, most of my company had departed. Firstly the Pan Grilled Basa Fish which was simply superb. Fish was really soft, with no bones. Just the way I like it, with copious amount of mash potato and fresh boiled vegetables. Spot on, tasted delicious. This was followed by Grilled Chicken. This dish too rocked. The chicken was tender and cooked to perfection with good amount of fresh vegetables. Loved both the dishes. They made my day.

Last but not the least we ventured into having the deserts, the Orange Creme caramel was delectable. Caramel flavor was rich. This was followed by me sampling, Kesari Badam Kulfi. By far, this was the best kulfi I have ever had. It felt properly grainy and sweet. The kulfi felt divine on the hot day.

The meal was a combination of a hit and miss. If you like over powering flavors of pesto, you might like the place. Otherwise you might have to hunt through the menu to find dishes without them. The pricing is also on the expensive side.

Food - 5.5/10
Ambiance - 8/10
Price - 7/10

Parfait3, Kilpauk.

12:54:00

I know its becoming increasingly difficult for people to decide where to order cakes for Birthday Celebrations and other parties. There are so many options and the number  of bakeries are just increasing day by day. You get the regular commercial baker and there are also small time bakers who bake cakes from their homes and are willing to give it out for parties. In the olden days when you had a party and you wanted to order a cake, you had very few options. So it was easy. Decide the budget of the cake and then go to the shop and get your cake. If your budget was low you headed to Mc Rennett and little more budget you headed to Hot Breads & Cake Walk and if you had lot more then you had the cake shop of Taj. Simple and Easy to chose. Now there is a cake shop in every road. At times two or even three cake shops in road. Where do you head to?  I too was stuck in a similar dilemma when I wanted to order a cake for my brother's Birthday.

Since there is an increase in the  number of cake outlets, you have to decide how far you want to go to get your cake. With the amount of traffic increasing on road its advisable to go to a place which is close by if you are driving. Most places do have the delivery thingi. But  I feel there are chances you might ruin the surprise if by mistake, they happen to deliver the cake to the Birthday Baby himself. Yes it has happened to me. Given that I stay in Kilapuk, I have got quite a few options here. Hot Breads, Taj, Parfait3, French Loaf and  Jene Ferrer. I had narrowed it down to Parfait3 and French Loaf. The tipping point for me to go with Parfait3 was, I have started to like cakes they produce. I just love the Belgian Delight. The cake is so soft and moist and gooey. So i went ahead and ordered Rich Blueberry.

The cake was soft and moist. The taste of Blueberry was perfect. The important thing of all, was the presentation of the cake. It was  awesomely good. It tasted nice the next day as well.I am sure I will order  another cake from them when the occasion arises.

Taste - 10/10
Presentation - 9/10

Parfait3 is located in Manikeshwari Road in Kilpauk. They do have branches in Velachery, Anna Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur.
