Gossip Bistro, ECR, Chennai

13:46:00

I have heard a lot about Gossip Bistro. So on our way over to Sheraton Grand we stopped over at Gossip Bistro for Lunch. The Bistro is located in Kanathur on ECR with good amount of Car Parking. People traveling on weekends are not gonna have difficulty finding the place or the need to worry about the parking their vehicle.

Food:
We started with Potato Wedges and BBQ Chicken Boneless as my one year old like both of them. The wedges were deep fried with skin and had a dash of cream and spices on it. This made the dish mildly spicy but with a really good zing to it. While the other dish had small morsels of chicken marinated in a typical smokey bbq sauce and shallow fried served along with mayo and blue cheese dip.

While we were munching on this we were served complimentary breads with herbed butter and Ice Lemon Tea.

For our mains we had Penne Cajun Chicken Pasta and Chicken Pot Pie. The Pasta was creamy with a hint of cajun spice which made it delicate. While the latter had a short crust pastry with a serving of chicken, bell peppers and cheese. I found the pastry slightly on the sweeter side, but definitely a tasty dish over all.

The menu does feature Indian dishes as well for the people who want Indian dishes.

Ambiance:
The restaurant design is contemporary with large glass areas to lend adequate light which enhances the appearance.

Service:
Service was good overall even though they were swapped with customers. One minor grouse is the restaurant had only one high chair for kids which was already taken by a group of customers. We had to wait until they were done to get the chair. I really do wish they invest in more high chairs which will drive in more young families.

Price:
This meal cost us 1428/- which we felt was worth the feast we were served.

Price - 8.5 / 10
Ambiance - 9 / 10
Service - 8 / 10
Price - 8 / 10.

Disclaimer - I paid for the meal.

BBQ Chicken, Shafee Mohammed Road

20:43:00

I was at BBQ Chicken post Iftar, with my family recently as my sister in law was feeling peckish. We just wanted to have something light, but it was not to be. For it turned out into a full fledged dinner. We entered BBQ Chicken which had the ambiance comparable with a Pizza Hut joint. I was surprised about the amount of seating available at the place, because I had been here when Movin Pick was operating in this very premise. BBQ definitely appeared roomier. We got seated in a nice corner of the restaurant which had plush seats and superb view of the TV broadcasting the Olympics.

The waiter handed us the menu. Since this was our first time here, we had to go through the menu thoroughly. The menu was vast. I began salivating seeing the pictures on the menu. We placed our order as soon as possible as we had started to become hungry all over again. We ordered for Buffalo chicken wings for starters and BBQ Chicken platter and Ganjeong Chicken for main course.

Buffalo Chicken Wings arrived under 10 minutes. My mom who loves spicy chicken wings started raving about the taste of the chicken after she took a few bites. The chicken had a thick batter, which was mildly spicy and had a lovely olive oil taste to it. A warning to people who do not like olive oil, most dishes on the menu are made using olive oil. Olive oil is much healthier compared to most other oils. It is really nice seeing restauarants with the practice of using olive oil.

After demolishing the Buffalo wings, we dug into the BBQ Chicken Platter and Ganjeong Chicken. BBQ Chicken Platter contained a piece of Jamaican BBQ and two pieces of Korean BBQ chicken. It also contained a portion of fried rice, bowl of vegetables and a dipping sauce. Both the BBQ were reminiscent of the respective dishes served in Sparky Diner. Both the chickens were cooked using olive oil and had deep flavors. The Jamican Jerk sauce predominated the taste in the Jamican chicken. While the Korean BBQ had a little heat to it. You could easily find the presence of soy sauce marinade. I also had a piece of the Ganjeong Chicken. It was served with spicy chips. The chicken was coated with a healthy dosage of red chilli and a sweet sauce. The taste was way too sweet for my liking. Not my favorite dish. But if in case you are a fan of sweet and mildly spicy chicken do try this.

Just as we were about to get done. My brother suggested that we try the Luxury Olive Chicken. So we placed an order for the same, along with some Garlic Bread. The Luxury olive chicken had the KFC feel to it, except this one was cooked in olive oil. This dish too, is served with the same spicy chips as in Ganjeong Chicken and coleslaw and olives. I loved the crispy crumpy outer coating. This was just delicious. A must try here. Also, a slightly healthy version of KFC. The Garlic Bread too was fantastic. The bread was soft and rich, with proper amount of garlic infused into it.

All an all, we loved our meal at BBQ Chicken. The meal set us back by Rs 1700/-. Would I return here. YES!!!

Copper Kitchen, Porur

21:00:00

Eating out with friends are fun, but this place we friends went to, was too good. We were a gang of 8 people who went out for lunch and the place we went to, was Copper Kitchen at Porur. After hearing about this place a couple of times from Karuna Karan and Nishant of CFG ( Chennai Food Guide ), I wanted to try out this place. When the opportunity arrived, I decided that we head over there.

We were all quite hungry after some really boring classes in the afternoon, as we headed to Copper Kitchen. There was a bit of searching for this place, as I had no clue as to where it was situated. As soon as we managed to locate it, we made a beeline for the A/C section of the restaurant.

I placed the order rather quickly. I ordered  a Baby Corn Manchurian for the only vegetarian in our gang, followed by Dragon Chicken, Golden Fried Prawns, Dry Fried Chicken ( Malabar Style ) and a Tandoori Chicken. I must say these starter vanished off the table in no time.  For a table of seafood lovers there was just one seafood dish which resulted in it disappearing within a second. The prawns were fresh and juicy. The dough used for frying made it really crispy. Dry fried chicken was rather dry, just as the name mentioned about it. The chicken was cooked to perfection and it was soft. Only 2 pieces for a table where eight are seated meant, this too vanished immediately. One of the dishes which we relished was the Tandoori Chicken. The chicken was soft and full flavoured, making it really tasty.

After some lip smacking starters, we headed into the main course with contentment and big smiles on our faces. We decided to get a Hyderabadi Chicken Biriyani for the Biriyani lovers. The Biriyani's taste was decent. We also ordered for Rumali Roti for all and Butter Chicken Masala, Mutton Rogan Josh and a Egg Masala. The Rumali roti was soft and easy to tear. The Butter Chicken Masala looked rich with loads of butter in it, but the was just decent. The Mutton Rogan Josh was not a very authentic dish, but this was sweet mutton with loads onions in it. This somehow did seem to work and it tasted savory. I did not try the Egg Masala as I am allergic to boiled egg. Lastly we ordered a Reshmi Kebab. The chicken was served enclosed in a egg covering and a pudina chutney dip. The egg felt as though it was whipped for a very long time and the chicken was super tender and mildly spiced.

On getting done with the main course we contemplated on wether to have deserts or not and decided to have them anyway. We ordered for a Falooda and a Copper Kitchen Special. Both the deserts were sweet and yummy. Two deserts for eight people resulted in people fighting for the deserts and them getting over quickly.

The meal for eight costs 1950/-, which is unbelievable value, in this day. A superb value for money restaurant for the middle class people.

Food 8/10
Service 8/10
Ambiance 7/10
Price 8/10

Zaitoon, Anna Nagar

14:09:00

I have been waiting for a while to tryout the food at  Zaitoon. It was never possible for me to convince anyone to have food in Zaitoon. Whenever I suggested that we go to Zaitoon, everyone would say its far so, much traffic to go to Adyar and so on. When I saw that Zaitoon  was opening a branch in Anna Nagar I was super happy. Its very close to my place. I love Arabian Food. I can now convince people to go there, and thats what I did. I convinced my Brother to give us his Birthday Treat in Zaitoon.

Zaitoon at Anna Nagar is built on a little smaller space compared to the Adyar Branch. It is smaller than the Sea Shells, Anna Nagar. The parking lot is also small. But good thing is that they have a Valet parking facility and there are loads of small streets around it where we can park our vehicles. We went in early as a matter of fact the 4th customers to be seated. So we had no trouble getting a parking slot. Also I had booked over phone for a table. So getting a seat for eight was also not so difficult.Ambiance is the same which we get over at Sea Shells. Guess they got the same interior designer.

Our family is a bunch of Meat freaks. We like meat more than rice. So we went about ordering the starters. First up we ordered Arabian Chicken Lollypop. Yes!!! I am back to eating chicken. The chicken lollypop was brilliant, well done and tasted awesome. Would love to have it one more time. Next up we ordered Chicken Shawarma Roll. If you are in an Arabian Restaurant you have got to tryout there Shawarmas. Shawarmas give you an idea of how good the restaurant actually is. The Shawarma was perfect. The Kuboos which was holding the stuffing inside was soft and warm. It did not crumble into pieces. So thats a top notch Shawarma. Then we ordered a Mutton Sheek Kebab, Shamak- al-Faham and a Effa Dejaj. Mutton Sheek Kebab was awesome as well. It was well done and the mutton melted in your mouth along with the Pudina Chutney. Shamak -al -Faham was not the best. The fish had a fishy smell to it. Guessing it was a day old fish which was prepared for us and not the days catch. The center of the fish was fresh and it tasted better than the sides of the fish. The fish was a bit spicy. But when mixed with Hummus and Garlic paste and taken along with the Kuboos it was perfect and not as spicy as before. Coming to the Effa Dejaj. Its my favorite dish. Every time we head over to Sea Shells there is a Effa Dejaj on our table. So when I saw it on the Menu we just had to order it. The Effa Dejaj was little less spicy than what you get in Sea Shells. The dish was perfectly executed. It tasted brilliant with the side ons.

After having a heavy dose of the starters we dint have much space in our stomach. But still we wanted to tryout the KP (Kerala Parotta). So we ordered a Kerala Parotta each and a Chicken Sakoti and a mutton dish which the waiter suggested. The KP was perfect. Soft, slim, tender, crisp, and melt in your mouth types. The chicken Sakoti too tasted good along with the KP.The mutton gravy as such was too good. But the mutton was little bit on the harder side. Nevertheless it tasted good along with KP.

So if you happen to go to Zaitoon do tryout their KP and the Shawarma. Since the place has been opened up recently they have been facing with some teething problems in the Kitchen. The Juice Counter and the Falooda Counter are yet to be opened. Nevertheless the food was awesome and we had a fun night. The prices are a around 20 to 40 Rupees more than what you have pay at Sea Shells. Our bill was Rs 2200/,  which is really good,  considering we were 8 people with big stomachs, gorging there.

Food - 8.5/10
Service - 9/10
Ambiance - 8/10
Price - 8/10
