Ze Flavours, Pleasant Days, Sembarabakkam

14:31:00

Not always do you come across a multi-cuisine restaurant which is strong in all cuisines. I always thought them as a Jack of all trades, but never the best. So dining at Ze Flavours was a big revelation. Finally a multi-cuisine restaurant which was able to serve up fabulous dishes of all cuisines.

Food:
The meal started off with simple Lime Mint Cooler served as a welcome drink. This was followed by a sampler of sorts with Mushroom Vol Au Vent, Chicken Satay, Chicken Tikka, Lamb Sheek Kebab and finally Karuveppali Yera. Each fabulous in its own way.

My pick of the lot were the Prawns and the puff pastry Mushroom Vol Au Vent. This was followed by a Tom Yum Soup with Prawns as a base. It was a little spicy than I would have liked, but still fabulous.

This was followed by a palate cleanser of sorts in the form of Mango Sorbet which was a delight. Just as we were getting our taste buds tuned, we were served with main course sampler, which I really did not expect. Herb Crusted Halibut Fish, Prawns in Hot Garlic Sauce, Rack of Lamb on a bed of Spaghetti Arrbiata.

The Herb crusted fish was fresh and mildly spiced. The Prawns was the star dish here. Loved its flavours. It was scrumptious. At this point I was on the verge of being stuffed. But I ploughed along. The spaghetti was Al Dente with the fresh Arrabiata sauce lending tons of tomato goodness.

The lamb of rack which was served along with the pasta was simply juicy and tender. A slight slit and it falls of the bone. Finishing the main course sampler we were served with Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Naan, which was just divine. I do not think one can go wrong with this combination.

By the end of the main course it was abundantly clear this multi cuisine restaurant had just flexed its muscles to serve up dishes of almost all cuisine which were praise worthy. Finally we were served with a Tiramisu with a twist and Vanilla Ice Cream. Tiramisu was quite different here thanks to switching of ladyfingers with sponge cake. The coffee flavour was infused into the cake which gave depth to the dish.

Ambiance:

The interiors were simply fabulous. On par with a 5 star hotel. I am sharing a few shots of the location which I had obtained by doing a google search about the property. I thought one must see it to actually understand the grandeur. Also if one would wish to wow their companion on a date, do consider this location.

Price:
A meal for two should range between Rs 1500 - 2000/-. which seems in line with most star hotels.

Ze Flavours is located inside Hotel Pleasant Days which is a property adjacent to Queensland Amusement Park.

Manhattan Fish Market, R.K. Salai

08:53:00

An International food chain starting its operations in Chennai first, before looking at other metros means a lot. Chennaites can now proudly announce that we were the first to get the Manhattan Fish Market. There was a lot glamour surrounding the launch of this restaurant. They had promos on Facebook, up and running at least over a year ago which created enough buzz. Looks like social media is the way forward. If you create enough buzz before the launch of the operations it would translate it into sale.

Food:
I was invited over, along with a bunch of fellow bloggers. We were given a short round of refreshments in the form of an Iced Lemon Tea. Shortly after which we were given a brief menu tour on the various preparations methods. We let the restaurant decide our menu for the night and waited to be amazed.

Fried Country Mushrooms were the first to be served along with Garlic Herb Mussels. Fried Country Mushrooms were delicious. Imagine KFC popcorn but only veg here, with mushrooms. This was the first time I was having Mussels. It was more of a like or dislike kind. Chewy and soft, Few of em were great but one was distinctly not to my liking.  It had inky taste. I am not able come to a conclusion if I had enjoyed it or not. But the taste profile of the Garlic sauce was fantastic.

In between gorging on the starters we were served with the Cream of Mushroom Soup. Yes we chose to have a veg soup. Surprising Yes! Between all the Seafood we were to binge on, a veg soup was a welcome change. It had a thick creamy consistency, which was to my liking.

Zuff! the starters were done and we moved to the main course. I am a sucker for good fish and chips. My 2nd brother introduced these delicious babies to me when we were on tour in Maldives. Manhattan Fish and Chips thats what it is called here. Please do not skip this. This dish was just phenomenal. The crispy batter fried fish with the garlic herb sauce make this dish simply irresistible.

Moving along we had the Veggie Oilo - Spaghetti with sautéed mushroom and diced capsicum without even a drop of onions or garlic was a refreshing change.

Next up were the platters. We were served with Grilled Flaming Lobster Platter and the Manhattan Star Platter. My pick here will be the Grilled Flaming Lobster Platter. It had all the items I love. Flamed Lobster check, Batter fried Calamari and Fish check, French Fires check and finally the garlic herb mussels. Lobster was the item of this platter. Simply exquisite. Best lobster I have had in a long time.

I did like the Manhattan Star Platter as well because of the spectacular Flaming Prawns. Did binge on some Grilled Calamari and some Fried Oysters. My first for both. Calamari more because of the preparation while the Oysters a definite first time. Oysters too had the same feel and taste of Mussels. I am unable to pass a verdict on the same.

In between all the eating we had some Citrus Mint drinks which was awesome. Finishing off our meal we chose our desserts. We picked on Sweet Alabama Shake and Oreo Kaboom Shake and for the sweet tooth we picked Tuscan Tiramisu and Manhattan Mud Pie. Shakes were so blah! too liquidy. Tiramisu was decent, while the Mud Pie was fantastic.

The food was more of mixed feel for me. I came to know that their seafood catches are usually 3 days old which could be one of the reason for the mixed feel. Apart from seafood they do have a few dishes with Chicken and veggies as well.

Ambiance:
The restaurant is put up in two floors. Ground floor is good for small set while the next is best for big groups. The decor takes centre stage. Each room is equipped with a tele and apple tv. This should keep the little ones occupied while older people enjoy the seafood meal.

Price:
A decent meal for two comprising of starter, drinks, mains and desserts should cost realistically at around Rs 2000/-.

Mash Grill, Haddows Road - Burger Wars

00:07:00

My hunt for some lip smacking burgers took me to my next stop, Mash Grill. I remember eating here a few months ago, and I loved the sizzlers. This time around I was here to try out the burgers. I have become a sucker for some juicy, yummy burgers. I reached Mash along with my brother and his friend, and was relieved to see a good valet service to park the car. We were seated in a nice and cozy spot.

Myself and the friend decided to settle on Mint Lemon drink, while my brother ordered Pineapple Litchi concoction. The lemon mint drink tasted like lime mint cooler which we get from fruit shop. The pineapple and litchi combo was nice, but I felt the litchi flavor was a little over powering.

I picked the Slick Chicken, which is a lemon drizzle chicken which I had on my previous visit. But felt it was a little undercooked, the chicken was a bit chewy in consistency. The taste too was not as great as the previous time. Then we ordered for a  Chicken Aada. It had a bread base with a  chicken and cheese topping. I loved the dish and also the two who accompanied me felt the same too.

After a good round of starters we picked 'The Burgers' which we wanted to attack. I settled on Steak Chicken burger, while my brother chose BBQ Chicken Burger and his friend picked Mash Classic Chicken Burger. My Steak burger was kind of sweet, and felt good in some areas and not so good in the other. I also felt it was not really juicy enough. I had a bite of the BBQ burger and I felt the same about it as well. But it did have a BBQ flavor to it. Then finally I sampled the Mash Classic, it was nice cheesy but it failed to impress me. A round of the burgers and I felt that I have had better burgers else where.

Then finally we decided to have a Cheese Filled Crumb Fried Chicken ( Don't remember the actual name ). This was really delicious. I was actually expecting it to be very heavy and cheesy, but it was just right. The cheese did not over power the taste of the chicken. It remained crispy even after the time we took, in consuming the burgers. All in all, the dish was very juicy and full flavored.

At the end of the meal, I came to a realization that if I were to visit Mash again, I would stick to the grill items. Though the burgers were nice, they failed to impress me. The meal for 3 put us back by Rs1670/-.

Food - 7/10 ; Burgers ( 6/10 )

Mash Grill, Haddows Road

21:57:00

I have been wanting to tryout Mash at Haddows Road for quite sometime . One of my friends  wanted to meet me for lunch. So I did some brainwashing to convince him that we would meet at Mash on Haddows Road. I was tempted to go to Mash after seeing their ads on Terrific Trio. Anyways we decided to meet up around 12 noon at Mash.

But on reaching Mash I hit a hurdle. The parking lot at Mash was full, actually only three to four cars could be parked there. You get the picture. On top of that, the police were doing their rounds in and around KNK Road with wheel locks.  So this sent me  making three to four rounds in and around the road, hunting for a place to park my car. Finally I was fed up at not finding a place to park the vehicle and so parked it in front of the restaurant and handed the keys to my friend's driver who parked it eventually once a slot cleared up.

Finally I got myself seated in the restaurant. Our friendly waiter handed us the menu and didn't inform us about the Terrific Trio Offer and my brain was so tired after trying to get a parking slot that I forgot to inquire about it. Anyways, leaving that aside, everything was great.

We went about ordering a steak and a drink each, and as an after thought we ordered a starter. The starter which I cant recollect the name was made in lemon juice and garlic paste. It tasted fabulous. The lemon marinated chicken just tasted awesome with coleslaw and mayo. The chicken felt like it was bathed with lemon. It was tender and well made. I settled in for a Mocha-chino thanks to my sore throat and my friend for a Hot Chocolate. Both the hot drinks tasted good but not as great as a coffee shops which we are used to.

After bit of chatting and a bit of eating and also some drinking later our Steaks arrived. I went in for a Fillet of Fish Steak and my friend got himself double marinated Chicken Sizzler. The Fish Steak tasted brilliant with the thousand island or something similar to its sauce. With a drizzle of the lime on it, it tasted even better. I did not get any of the fishy smell in it. I loved it. Would recommend it to my brother who's a big Fish steak fan. I had a taste of the chicken sizzler also and it tasted brilliant as well. Somehow the sizzler reminded me of the sizzler which you get at tangerine. All in all, I loved the food here.I got a parcel for my sister in law at home as well. The food for two plus a take away costed us Rs 1500/-, which I felt was similar to Tangerine.

Food - 8/10
Service - 7/10 (Waiter dude could have informed me about the offers)
Ambiance - 8/10
Price - 8/10
