Dreamer's Cafe, Auroville, Pondicherry

13:19:00

Auroville, is a place were people come in search of peace and well being. But this was not the case for my bunch of friends. The first word which came out of my BF's mouth was Pasikuthu ( I am Hungry). This was inspite of us having a heavy lunch at Promenade. So we walked into the Dreamers Cafe. This is located inside Auroville visitors center.

Food:
Since my friend and I are coffee lovers, we ordered a Cafe Latte, while the others ordered a Watermelon Juice. Then we saw Chocolate Mint Brownie and Biscotti we had one of each.

The Latte was decent, a little Indianzied for taste. The Chocolate Mint Brownies are to die for. Super gooey, very rich and has a minty effervescence. WOW!!! I would not mind driving all the way for these delights. The watermelon juice was neat. But I am pretty sure nothing beats the brownie.

Ambiance:
The cafe is more like a shack with a few seating around it.

Service:
NA

Price:
In total for the various portions of coffee and juices it brought a total of Rs 430/-

Food - 8/10
Ambiance - 8/10
Service - NA
Price - 8/10

Kettle, Anna Nagar - CFG Showcase

22:29:00

I wast here at Kettle, Anna Nagar along with the CFG gang for a Chennai Food Guide (CFG) Showcase. I must say, it was great to meet the gang after a very long time. Since my last CFG showcase, there has been many changes in the way we need to put up a review after a showcase. So I shall be abiding by the rules and try to incorporate changes to the method of presentation in the coming posts.

Food:
We kick started the proceedings with Panko Chicken Nuggets. One word for it Great! I am actually a sucker for Panko fried stuff, so I loved it blindly. It may not be to everyones taste.

Next there was a serving of Scones. I have never had scone before, so my experience is very limited. It was served along with Butter and Jam. Must say loved it! Then came the Mushroom on a Toast and it was decent.

After that came Tomato and Basil Soup. Many found it a tad salty, but not  me. I loved the creamy nature of the soup. It was predominantly tomato with a slight hint of Basil.

The veggies among us were served with Sprout Salad which I skipped happily. For the non-veggies we had  Hawaiian Chicken Salad with Banana Chips. Many complained about the texture of the chips. For me it was just right. The chips in-fact doubled up for a spoon and it was nice and easy to eat the salad.

Lamb Burger, which came next was a real surprise as I did not expect a near perfect burger from a tea shop such as this. Worth it!

Next we were given Mediterranean Egg White Ciabatta Sandwich which lacked flavor. I am not sure if it was supposed to taste like this. But I have had better sandwiches else where. The veggies on the other hand were served with Veg. Lasagnae. It was fantastic. Perfect filling and proper flavor were the bottom-line of the dish.

There was also a pesto paneer sandwich which I had skipped and Roasted Chicken Mayo Sandwich & Curried Pasta which were not to my liking.

There was a variety of deserts too. Of all the deserts served, I found Love for Strawberry Ice Cream, White Chocolate Raspberry Cheese Cake and Tiramisu to be great. Last but not the least the teas, Black Current Iced Tea was fabulous.  In fact I had another glass of the same tea towards the end of the meal. While the White Tea served to me was just okay. It lacked flavor.

Dishes to have:

Panko Chicken Nuggets
Tomato and Basil Soup
Hawaiian Chicken Salad
Lamb Burger
Veg. Lasagnae
Love for Strawberry Ice Cream
White Chocolate Raspberry Cheese Cake

Ambiance:
The tea joint is very up market, with contemporary interiors

Price:
Pricing is in par with most upmarket tea joints. A small snack for two would cost Rs 500/-

Kettle is located in 10th Main Road in Anna Nagar.

The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Phoenix Market City, Velacherry Main Road

19:32:00

Finally the biggest mall in Chennai has opened. A mall which surpasses the Express Avenue in space and grandeur, a mall which houses Chennai's first IMAX screen: the one and only Phoenix Market City!  It is located in Velacherry. I was here today along with my mom to have a look around the Mega landmark of Chennai. Today all the roads seem to lead to Phoenix City. It was that bursting with people. We were here post-lunch and we decided to grab a cup of coffee because all that loitering about and gaping at the shops made my mom tired!

Food:
The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, housed in 1st Floor of the mall, is where we headed to. The place was packed tight and we had to wait a few minutes before we could get a seat. I ordered a Ice Blended Mocha, while my mom ordered Cafe Latte and we decided to share a Chocolate Chip Muffin. The muffin was huge, and definitely four people could share it with ease. While both the coffees were fantastic. It had the right blend of coffee with very small amount of milk. If you are the kind of person who likes Barista then you would love this.

Ambiance:
It is a very small outlet with about a 20seats. It would be really difficult to get a seat on peak days for sure. The outlet looks really neat.

Service:
Service is really quick. It is almost like they are ready to throw you out with their service speed.

Price:
Most drinks are priced a touch higher than the outlets we are used to. But it is worth the bite!

Food - 8/10
Ambiance - 8/10
Service - 8/10
Price - 7/10

Fillin, Gopalapuram

16:04:00

If you guys likes Indian wraps and subs, then you got to visit Fillin in Gopalapuram. It's a fairly small place. As you enter Fillin, you notice that it's a self service joint, with Subway like layout. I was here with my friends for dinner. My friend picked Chicken Sheek Kebab and Chicken Tikka Sub. I got myself Goluti Kebab Sub and Chicken Tikka Sub and my other friend who was not so hungry ordered the Panner Punjabi wrap. I must say the Goluti Kebab sub was simply awesome. Mutton was really soft, it was like paste on the sub. This is the Sub you must tryout if you like mutton. Then I tried the Chicken Tikka Sub. It tasted good, but I felt there were not many chicken pieces in it. It did not feel wholesome. I took a bite of the Chicken Sheek Wrap. The kebab was very tasty and tangy.

We also ordered a Walnut Brownie and it was also very good. It tasted really yummy!. The meal put us back by Rs 560/- including sub take away. I was expecting that day's dinner to cost us over Rs.800/- so I was a bit surprised that it was easy on our pockets. Fillin prices the food very reasonably. The ambiance was neat and cosy. The kebabs which are used in their food is really fresh and  tasty.

Food - 7.5/10
Service - Self Service
Ambiance - 7/10
Cost - 8/10
