Ze Flavours, Pleasant Days, Sembarabakkam

14:31:00

Not always do you come across a multi-cuisine restaurant which is strong in all cuisines. I always thought them as a Jack of all trades, but never the best. So dining at Ze Flavours was a big revelation. Finally a multi-cuisine restaurant which was able to serve up fabulous dishes of all cuisines.

Food:
The meal started off with simple Lime Mint Cooler served as a welcome drink. This was followed by a sampler of sorts with Mushroom Vol Au Vent, Chicken Satay, Chicken Tikka, Lamb Sheek Kebab and finally Karuveppali Yera. Each fabulous in its own way.

My pick of the lot were the Prawns and the puff pastry Mushroom Vol Au Vent. This was followed by a Tom Yum Soup with Prawns as a base. It was a little spicy than I would have liked, but still fabulous.

This was followed by a palate cleanser of sorts in the form of Mango Sorbet which was a delight. Just as we were getting our taste buds tuned, we were served with main course sampler, which I really did not expect. Herb Crusted Halibut Fish, Prawns in Hot Garlic Sauce, Rack of Lamb on a bed of Spaghetti Arrbiata.

The Herb crusted fish was fresh and mildly spiced. The Prawns was the star dish here. Loved its flavours. It was scrumptious. At this point I was on the verge of being stuffed. But I ploughed along. The spaghetti was Al Dente with the fresh Arrabiata sauce lending tons of tomato goodness.

The lamb of rack which was served along with the pasta was simply juicy and tender. A slight slit and it falls of the bone. Finishing the main course sampler we were served with Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Naan, which was just divine. I do not think one can go wrong with this combination.

By the end of the main course it was abundantly clear this multi cuisine restaurant had just flexed its muscles to serve up dishes of almost all cuisine which were praise worthy. Finally we were served with a Tiramisu with a twist and Vanilla Ice Cream. Tiramisu was quite different here thanks to switching of ladyfingers with sponge cake. The coffee flavour was infused into the cake which gave depth to the dish.

Ambiance:

The interiors were simply fabulous. On par with a 5 star hotel. I am sharing a few shots of the location which I had obtained by doing a google search about the property. I thought one must see it to actually understand the grandeur. Also if one would wish to wow their companion on a date, do consider this location.

Price:
A meal for two should range between Rs 1500 - 2000/-. which seems in line with most star hotels.

Ze Flavours is located inside Hotel Pleasant Days which is a property adjacent to Queensland Amusement Park.

Hotel Kannappa Chettinad, Trichy

17:21:00

Finally had an opportunity to relive the fantastic gastronomic food at Hotel Kannappa at Trichy on my recent drive to Karaikudi. Big thanks to the married couple Mrs & Mr. Sathapan for making this trip happen.

What happens when a bunch of carnivores walk into non-veg paradise and go on an all out attack? Here is the rest of the story.

Food:
Seven hungry souls enter for lunch. Let me just list out what all we had and then try to explain them down.
We had
5 Mutton Biryani ( 3 Basmati Rice & 2 Seraga samba )
2 Mutton Kola Urundai
2 Mutton Brain
2 Nethili
2 Chicken Chukka
1 Pigeon Masala
2 Sets of Parotta
2 Chicken Chettinad Masala
1 Chilli Parotta
1 Chilli Paneer.
5 Falooda
1 Tuti frooti

I know the list is little huge. But we licked each dish clean.

Firstly a comparison between the Basmati Rice and Seraga Samba rice. My pick will be Seraga Samba hands down. Basmati rice had a very mild flavour and just could not hold its head with the Seraga Samba. Both the biryani had wholesome pieces of mutton.

Mutton Kola Urundai Vanished at the same speed it was served. Yummy Yummy... Mutton Brain was sort of an introduction for a few people in our group. I must say they loved it. Too bad they missed it all this while. Nethili was crispy fry and fresh. It just kept going in. Chicken Chukka too was fantastic. But I was too occupied with Brain and Nethili. The only dish which was not upto my liking was the Pigeon Masala. Found the taste a little weird even when it had the similar masala to Chicken Chettinadu. Could be because I have never eaten pigeon before or I could not pull meat apart from the bone.

Chilli Parotta was kind of like a appetiser for us. We just finished that in no time. I did not get to taste the paneer so I will reserve judgement on it. All in all the Kannappa is a proper non-veggies paradise. A place to dine if you happen to pass through Trichy.

The Falooda and Tuti Frooti were almost identical except for the swap of vanilla ice cream for strawberry ice cream.

Ambiance:
The restaurant has an ambiance similar to your Anjappar and Ponnuswamy. No complaints here.

Service:
It was quick and efficient. Very attentive and they put up  with our over exuberance.

Price:
The bill amount for this fantastic spread of meal was Rs 3250/-

Moonrakers,Mahabalipuram

08:59:00

After having a awesome get together with my really large group of relatives on New Year's Eve. I headed off to Mahabalipuram for New Year's Lunch to get our seafood  taste buds tingling. I guess it was a wrong day to travel on the ECR. It was like driving in city traffic conditions while  on the dual carriage way. The traffic did not  to ease at all. Finally after a tiring drive we reached Moonrakers. Moonrakers was bloody crowded. So was the Blue Elephant which is opposite to Moonrakers. The Blue Elephant is also owned by Moonrakers Group. I ended up going to Anand' Moonrakers. The new joint started by them. It had some seating in it, so we entered it.This was the 1st time I was entering Anand's Moonrakers.

The order was simple. We had two plates of Fish, One plate of Prawn, One plate of Chicken, One plate of Crab on Tawa Masala. and also a Golden Fried Calamari. Except for the Calamari, the portions seemed to be really less when compared to the Original Moonrakers. Also i am guessing they tried too much on pleasing the drinkers. The Tawa Masala was Super Spicy. It was not palatable. The prawns, the chicken and the Crab came in really spicy. So i returned the Crab and i ended up with nicely washed crab, not that i was complaining. The crab was more palatable now. The fish way too small for a medium portion. It was skinny and over done. This resulted in a spicy crispy fish.

I liked the Golden Fried Calamari's batter. So maybe the next time I head over there I will order the batter fried Prawns. All in all the food was really spicy. With different chef in this branch it meant that the end result was also different. The food was not so great as the Original Moonrakers. So maybe the next time onwards i ll wait to get seated in the Original Moonrakers.

Dont expect anything great about the service nor about the ambiance. The products are usually fresh catches of that day. You can bargain with the them if you head as a large group. There is nothing called as Service Tax. So just head over there to enjoy the food.
