Midnight Snacking - Cocojaunt1728 - Swiggy

08:32:00

There are times I decide to skip dinner and just head to bed only to realize that I am hungry after all. Now this just ruins my very much needed sleep. Finally I have found a fix, thanks to Swiggy. They give you the option to dine at home from your favorite restaurants which remain open till 11pm but which do not do door delivery.

Food:
I chose to have the What a Bomb Burger and Grilled Chicken & Feta in Pita Bread.

Chicken was tender, served with fried egg and a big serving of mayo made it a proper greasy burger. Only grouse was that the bun just did not hold together till the end.

I was hoping for a pita pocket filled with the Grilled Chicken & Feta, but this was more like a deconstructed wrap. Filled to the brim with Grilled Chicken, Black Olives & Lettuce. The soft pita bread made the dish a delight.

Ambiance:
NA

Service:
Swiggy did a fantastic job of delivering the lovely mid-night snack way past 12am in the night. The deliver tracker is a boon.

Price:
The price of the midnight snack was Rs 390/-

Food - 8/10

Tuck shop Gourmet, Ethiraj Salai, Chennai

08:55:00

Burgers and Sandwiches are two dishes which I never miss. The latest entrant into the food scene of Chennai is Tuck Shop Gourmet located bang opposite Ethiraj College.

Food:
This was more of pitstop kind of a meal, so did not carry my gear to click fancy photos. We had Cheese Burger and Lamb Meatball sandwich and finished off the meal with dessert-Ecstacy.

The Cheese Burger aka Tenderloin burger was out of the world. Yet another place which reinvents the burgers from our much loved Gallopin Gooseberries. Enjoyed the juiciness of the meat. It definitely made my hand messy. So full marks for the burger.

The Lamb Meatball Sandwich was in a different league. The meatballs served along with the Marinara sauce gets full marks in my books. The bread became a tad soggy, but I still enjoyed it.

The Ecstasy dessert was a chocolate over load. More like a Chocolava cake.

Ambiance:
Housed inside the Donut House, Tuck Shop Gourmet retains the same interiors.

Service:
This was one thing which was little disappointing. Service was quite slow.

Price:
This meal for two cost us Rs 590/-

Hoppipola, Spring Hotel, Nungumbakkam, Chennai

09:04:00

Chennai bar food scene is finally warming up to a lot of new players. More choices, better for the consumer. Newest entrant into the scene is Hoppipola - A bar which wants to put the fun back into your life. A table which doubles up as a blackboard. Super sized Jenga for the Jenga fans. Mini golf, Taboo and various other games, plus a collection of Comics. Yes definitely this does put some recreation back into the life. Maybe they should instate no phones rule, like the no stags rule :P A place which looks like a garden with some fine sounding audio setup playing tracks to groove to. This is the scene at Hoppipola.

Food:
As always I picked my magic portion, Peachy Mangifera, a spicy mock-tail and a Virgin Pina Colada. While my friend had a Orange Passion Frappe & Virgin Pina Colada and the sole drinker had the Watermelon - Basil Caprioshkas. The Peachy Mangifera had a nice spicy zing to it and the Pina Colada was out of the world. Finally a proper Pina Colada with good coconut juice.

The meal kicked off with Jah Man's Chicken, which was breaded chicken with Jamaican spices. Crispy and tasty but a little dry for my liking. Next up was the sole veg dish, which was the Cheesienos, which was essentially a crisp fried cheese stick.

Following this we had the Wassa Tokyo and Lambada. Wassa Tokyo was golden fried prawns served on skewers - simply delicious and the Lambada was lamb patty served on a pita bread served with a dash of exotic veggies. It was scrumptious.

For mains we had a Chicken Blasta Pasta, 4 ways Pizza and a Lamburgini Burger. The Blasta Pasta had quiet a chilly hit to it. Kind of oil soaked as well. But still pretty decent.

Pizza 4 ways was two veg pizzas and two non-veg pizzas put-together. The veg pizzas were Margarita and Cheesie Pizznezz while the carnivore part had the Lambretta and Jerkin Around. Getting to sample so many different kinds of pizzas on a single base was a first for us. Nice thin crust worked in the toppings favour.

Finally we had the Lamburgini Burger which kind was a let down. Thin patty which was on the drier side and the bun to patty ratio also did not help the cause. But presentation wise it looked brilliant. French fries served Jenga style was quite nice.

For desserts we had the Banana Cinnamon Ice Cream Cake and Molten Chocolate Lava Cake served along with a Vanilla Ice Cream. Both pretty decent desserts to finish up a meal.

Ambiance:
This was something which I enjoyed the most. Had crazy fun playing Jenga and mini golf.

Price:
A meal for two should cost around Rs 1500 - 2000 including a round of drinks.

Plan B, Greams Road, Chennai

18:38:00

Plan - B, yet another resto-bar which I have been wanting to visit for a long time, mainly for their juicy, tasty burgers, finally happened last night. Chennai Foodie and myself being TEETOTALLERS had fun with mock-tails yet again, while the only the non-teetotaler friend had fun downing some spirits.

Food:
We kick started the proceedings with mock-tails, Fluffy Duck and Crazy Colonel. Fluffy duck was lychee based drink which had a nice sharp kick to it, while the Crazy Colonel was orange juice based drink which was nice too.

For starters we had Chicken Loaded Potato Skins, Fiery Chicken and Beef Chilli Cheese Fries. I definitely can't single out which one of these would be my favourite. Each great in its own right. My only grouse was with the Beef Chilli Cheese Fries. I was expecting the beef to be served on a bed of fries but it was the other way around. More meat and less amount of fries to be used as a dip. Nevertheless it was amazing!

For mains we had the Tenderloin Steak which was medium done and the Juicy Lucy Burger. The steak was served on a bed of Mashed Potatoes which was fabulous, no clumping what so ever with a slight hint of sweetness to it. The mushroom pepper sauce gave a nice spice balancing effect to the potatoes. The meat was soft and succulent, a perfect dish I must say. Reminded me of the steak I had at Cheesecake Factory in Abu Dhabi. Definitely returning for this.

The Juicy Lucy Burger on the other hand was nice, but just not the kind I was hoping for. I was hoping for a really juicy and greasy burger, but this fell a little flat being more manageable and clean.

We finished our meal with the best desserts I have had in a long time - Chocolate Tart and Chocolate Trio. Absolutely decadent!

Ambiance:
Lovely music played on one of the best setup acoustic systems I have come across. Loved every bit of it. If you are a person who loves HOUSE, CLUB, ELECTRO music and also loves to have a good meal, this is a place to be.

Price:
A meal for two should cost around Rs 1500 to 2000/- depending on your order.

Fuddruckers, Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi

15:46:00

My food stops at Abu Dhabi have been all about having the best burger and this stop at Fuddruckers was no different.

Food:
Our order was an Appetiser Platter, half a pound Swiss Melt Burger and a Cajun Chicken Platter with a couple of bottomless cokes. The best part about Fuddruckers was the salads counter which is free. My mom just loved the salads while I binged on my half pound swiss melt beef burger. I was a little cocky when I ordered it. But I did have a tough time finishing it.

The Appetizer Platter comprised of Chili French Fries topped of with Chicken curry, Crispy Cheesy Mozzarella Breaded Sticks, Onion Rings, Buffalo Chicken Wings and finally a Quesadilla. Apart from the Quesadilla every other element was fantastic. My top favourites were the Chicken Wings and the Chili Fries Wow!!!

Moving on to my half a pound Swiss Melt which was cooked to medium was simply amazing. It was one juicy cheesy greasy messy burger. I finished of by sampling a little bit of the Cajun Chicken Platter which had cajun spiced chicken pieces charboiled to perfection.

Ambiance:
Reminded me of Sparky's back home. So did the food.

Service:
No Complaints here

Price:
This meal cost us about 190 AED, which was well worth the money.

Burger King, Hamdan Street, Abu Dhabi

15:58:00

After all the enjoyment at the Ferrari World and Yas Water World we were all really tired, so we had a takeaway dinner from Burger King located in Hamdan Street. My first experience at Burger King so I was really excited

Food:
I picked the Steak House Beef Burger as it came highly recommended while the rest had Chicken Steak House Burger.  We chose to have French Fries and Chicken Tenders as accompaniments. For finishing touches we had Hersheys Chocolate Sundae.

My Beef Steakhouse was really soft and it had beautiful BBQ score marks on it. It was mildly spicy thanks to the hickory sauce which they had used. I had a bite of the Chicken version too. It was lighter than my Beef version, but still carried the same flavour. The Chicken Tenders served with BBQ sauce was decent.

The Hersheys Chocolate Sundae which was part of their limited time specials was simply heavenly. I do not think anyone can stop with just one bite.

TGI Friday's, Ramee Mall

21:52:00

Met my school friends after Iftar recently.  I Introduced them to some Muslim food stuffs such as Nombu Kanju and Haleem. Post the small snack we headed over to Double Roti at around 8pm hoping to get a seat. One look at the crowd waiting at Double Roti, we knew it was not going to happen. So we contemplated on other options and headed over to TGI Friday's at Ramee Mall.

We walked in to the restaurant through the mall which was mostly deserted. The only other shop to be functioning in the mall, was TASMAC elite. Anyways we entered the restaurant and found hardly 3 tables occupied, which did not deter us as we just wanted to have a go at TGIF.

Food:
After a long look at the menu we settled on Ultimate Fridays Nachos (veg) and Spicy Chicken Wings (12 pcs). Nachos were served with monstrous load of toppings from black lentils, cheddar cheese, tomatoes to chillies. I was afraid that the toppings would make the nachos loose their crispiness, but that was not the case and it tasted just alright.

While the Spicy Chicken Wings had the flavours of Atomic Chicken Wings of Gallopin Gooseberries licked. My God! I would have definitely had atleast 4 of the 12 pieces. To quench our thirst we ordered Virgin Mojito and Strawberry Lemonade which were fine. Sadly the other mock-tails on the menu were not available.

For mains I picked the Ultimate Jack Daniels Tenderloin Burger - minus the bacon, while my friends had the Half Rack of Texas Spiced Ribs, Jack Daniels New York Steak and Shrimp and finally a Miami Cubano Chicken Stack - minus the bacon.

I had huge expectations for their signature burger but I have to say it left me disappointed. First I did not like the bun as it absorbed all the juice and began to break away. Secondly  tenderloin, though being soft and large, had a funny taste which could be down to Jack Daniels Sauce, which was sweet. The only redeeming points were the fries and the Cajun crusted onion rings. I skipped having the Texas Spiced Ribs and had a bit of the other two mains.

The Jack Daniels New York Steak and Shrimp was by far the star dish. The Jack Daniels sauce complemented the preparation of the chicken and the crispy fried shrimp was fantastic and the mashed potatoes it came with was simply smooth.

Finally the Miami Cubano Chicken Stack which was breaded chicken breasts with cheese, mushroom and lemon sauce  was served with Paella rice  The lemon with the breaded chicken was the kicker. It was fantastic. But the same cannot be said about Paella rice which was more like a lemon rice with tomato garnish. My friends who consumed the Texas Ribs were singing praises about the softness of the meat and taste.

Ambiance:
I think this could be one of the places were one would get a table easily as the mall was not a happening place to attract people. Thankfully the ambiance is quite nice. But a nightmare to click decent foodshots.

Service:
Quick, clean and efficient.

Price:
I went through the bill split up just to have look at the way they had charged us. Our total bill was Rs 5001/- of which food cost us Rs 3801/- while the rest went away as various taxes and service charge. Shocking. But we paid and walked away. Would I try again, just maybe.

Dine @ Escape, Express Avenue, Royapettah

20:54:00

Looks like my blog had become a Pondicherry food guide after my visit there. Stepping back to the hometown, this is about my venture into dining at the DINE  in Express Avenue, after doing a couple of hours of window shopping.

Food:
It was just me and my mum, and my mum wanted to try the soup of the day. The soup of the day was Sweet Corn Chicken Soup which we had as 1 by 2 portion which was quite decent. Good quantity of morsels of chicken in clear soup. For the main course I had chosen the combo which comprised of Chicken Fried Rice, Dragon Chicken and a glass of Coke, while my mom had the Roast Chicken Lasagne.

The fried rice and chicken were quite good and punched much higher than my expectations. Decent quantity and delicious. The Chicken Lasagne was exquisite. If one is looking for a very tasty lasagne in a place which has a very good ambiance without blowing a big hole in the pocket, look no further. Lasagne was loaded with chicken pieces and the sauce was creamy. Craving for a lasagne look no further. Even my mom was quite impressed with the lasagne.

Ambiance:
Quite contemporary and you do get the feeling of dinning in a fine dine restaurant.

Service:
This was simply superb. Only one man manning the restaurant. But the way he conducted himself really sets the standards. Helping my mom to get seated first then, poring the water 1st to my mom and in so many other ways he impressed me. Something which you only see 5star restaurants and also in some other fine dine standalone restaurants. Totally impressed.

Price:
This meal for two cost us Rs 770/- No service charge was present so we decided to tip him.
