The Reef, Sheraton Grand, ECR, Chennai

18:24:00

It has been over a year since I had updated the blog. With lot of work going into my pet project, I was unable to post anything. I was kind of active on Instagram with photo reviews.

I had recently taken a short break from work. I got to dine at The Reef at Sheraton Grand. I will try and summarize the entire experience.

Food:
For people who have become like me, impatient to read through the entire blog, the verdict is Simply Sensational.

We had gone for the dinner buffet on Pongal. The Reef was not hosting any special menu on the occasion. So my impressions are based on the regular affair served here.

We started with the soup which was a Thai Chicken Soup. One Sip of it and I was blown away by the taste. It was delicate and well balanced.

Buffet also had Veg Cream Soup which I did not get to taste. The buffet spread was quite extensive with a Selection of Salads, Make Your Own Salad, Assorted Breads with Cheese and also Live Counter for Chaat items, Pasta and Pizza.

The spread had a good mix of Indian dishes and Continental items. Paneer to Lamb Shank to Dals to Wok Tossed Noodles.

The Dessert spread was another highlight. Comprising of Indian Sweets to Cakes to Ice Creams to Brownies. All in all, loved the entire spread. One the best buffets I have had in a long time, with each and every dish being tasty. Some may not like certain dishes but my palate seemed to love em.

Ambiance:
The Reef is nestled in the spanking new property of Sheraton Grand on ECR. The property is Grand and befitting of the word GRAND.

Service:
Full marks here. We loved the service.

Price:
The buffet for a person is priced 1600 plus taxes. But if you have AMEX card you can knock 20% off the Bill thanks to AMEX alliance with SPG and Marriot group. So we ended up paying 2550/- for the two of us.

Would I visit again, 100% I will.

Ayna, Hilton, Guindy - Set Menu

22:25:00

Its been over a year since I had visited Ayna. Many changes have taken place and a new person is at the helm of things. This ought to bring about a lot of changes not that it was needed it. I have loved the Gulkand Mojito at Ayna, and I took this opportunity to introduce my mom to it.

Food:
It was just me and my mom out for dinner for my Birthday dinner. A quick view of the menu and we settled on the set menu. This is the first time I realized Ayna had a set menu as well. The 3 course meal started off with platter of sorts with a lovely tandoori grilled fish, two delicate pieces of chicken and finally taste bud mesmerising sheek kebabs.

Gulkand mojito was in a different league all together. My mom went the distance to diceper it. A very good refreshing drink worth the order.

Finally the mains reached our table. We were served with Murgh Makhani which is essentially chicken tikka masala, Lasooni Keema "Husseini" which is minced mutton in roasted spices. I am not a big fan of Kheema but I did love this. Finally we were served with Aloo Bukhara Kofta which is Fig, Prune and Cottage Cheese dumpling in a rich saffron gravy. I was just floored by the flavors of this gravy. I loved it so much, the next time I am here I would love to have it again. To go with these we had a selection of roti and naan. If this was not enough we had a mouth watering Dal Ayna with Hara Matar Pulao which is peas rice. Every dish was simply outstanding. It was a dinner fit for the royals and my mother seconded my thoughts by saying that  that the nawabs and sultans of yester era must have dined  on food like this.

To finish of the delicious three course meal we had a trio of desserts which was a sampler of sorts. It had a small portion of Badam Halwa, a small scoop of ice cream and finally a Rasamalai. Each had distinct flavour. All in all a very good meal and a stunning one on my Birthday!!

Ambiance:
Plush comfortable, raja style seats. Rich table decor. An absolute kings feast.

Service:
R O Y A L pampering.

Price:
This set meal costs Rs 2000 / head + taxes. Definitely worth the money.

Spice Haat, Hyatt Regency, Teynampet

20:47:00

I know I have been away from my blog for a while. Been busy with college work, which has kept me on my toes. This one has been a long pending review of a lunch buffet at Hyatt Regency - Spice Haat. From my previous experience here over a year ago, I knew this buffet was all going to be about the starters and desserts. I just wanted to see if it had changed.

Food:
I skipped the soup, as I had, had a heavy breakfast. I headed straight for the starters. The starters comprised of two non-veg and two veg starter. There was a huge spread of salads plus few a chaat items. Chicken Hariyali Kabab and Fish Tikka for the non-veggies and Tandoori paneer and potato for the veggies. I skipped the potato and helped myself to the Fish Tikka & Hariyali Kebab. Both were very yummy and the paneer was pretty decent.

I just could not let pass  the hummus and pita bread. Hummus was rich and the soft pita bread made the combo heavenly. Moving to the chaat, we had a choice of 3 items, but the one we wanted was the dhai poori. Unfortunate for us, the waiter offered us the other chaat items apart from the dhai poori as the poori had broken down. But we really insisted that we would like to have a chaat item which had some curd to it, Volaa! a mixture of dhai and papadi chaat was presented to us. Yummy!!!! we just couldnt resist it. In-fact we had 4 servings of the same.

I just had a sample of some of the main course which was available. I took a bit a romali roti and sampled the mutton rogan josh and a bit of the grilled chicken from the salads. It was decent, but I was saving up some space for the dessert.

The desserts were just divine. Tiramisu, Mango Mousse, Chocolate Pudding, Raspberry Yoghurt, Black current Mousse, phew the list goes on. I had one each. Now that is called sampling!

The entire buffet has remained unchanged from my last visit, with nice starters, decent main course and finally outstanding desserts.

Ambiance:
The decor has remained the same. Just one grouse though. On this particular day the A/C was a bit off. We found it  hot and sultry through the entire meal.

Service:
The service was fantastic, the waiters were kind and courteous.

Price:
Finally the price for the meal at Rs 1799.- per head might sound a little expensive, but you just cant resist the desserts which are served here.

Food - 7.5/10
Ambiance - 7/10
Service - 8/10
Price - 8/10

The Residency, Park Sheraton, T.T.K Road - The Buffet

18:24:00

The same bunch of undergrad batchmates who dined at 601, decided to catch up once again for dinner. Basically we wanted to gossip and catch up on news.  So under the pretext of a get-together we met  for dinner. As usual none of us settled on a particular place. We even entered a star hotel and then decided against it and escaped to Park Sheraton to finally dine at The Residency.

Its been a while since I dined at The Residency say maybe in 2003. So after a 10 year hiatus, I was here for a dinner.

Food:
Since Park Sheraton is known for the best service and amazing food, I had high hopes. I sure was not disappointed. The meal at Residency is more towards Indian cuisine. The restaurant was practically empty with few tables occupied. We chose a nice corner seat and settled in.

The meal started with Fish Fry, Vegetable Stir Fry and Dahi Poori being served at the table. The fish fry was decent, a very Indianized fish fry. No complaints! While the Vegetables Stir Fry and the Dahi Poori were kick-@$$. Inspite of being a through breed of non-veggies we liked the Vegetable Stir Fry. Dahi Poori was rich and fantastic. Since we liked all three we asked for another round of the same. This time around, the Fish fry turned up in another avatar as Grilled Fish with Tartar sauce. This was even better than the Indianized version.

While the others were binging on the starters on the table. I moved over to check out the Salads and Soup. I tried the Roast Chicken Salad, Tuna and the Chicken Salami. A big thumbs up to all the three. For the soup I opted for Chicken Clear Soup, since it was the only non-veg soup while the veggies had the Sweet Corn Soup. The Chicken Clear Soup was fabulous, neat soup, very much reminded me of the soup my mom makes.

In-between the soup my friend had asked for the Dhal and Rajma to be served with Lacha Parotta at the table. The Parotta was crispy and was fabulous with the Dhal. The Rajma was not to my liking, but the company seemed to like the Rajma.

I was feeling a little full at this point, so I stuck only to the non-veg portion of the main course while the others tried a few veg dishes such as the Paneer. The main course was a non-veggies paradise. It had all the common suspects as part of the menu. Of the lot I loved the Beef Tenderloin, Murgh Makani and the Chili Prawns. We chose to have them with the Butter Naan. Butter Naan and the Beef Tenderloin was the best. Amazing combo. If the beef is not up your alley, then the Murgh Makani was supremely rich. A big thumbs!

After stuffing myself with the main course, I had hardly any space to have the desserts. I restricted myself to trying a few of them. There was atleast 30 different desserts with 6 different types of Ice Cream plus the toppings. I loved the Ice Creams and the Warm Chocolate Pudding plus the Mango Cake. We were also served with Hot Jelabi on the table. All very top notch. There were some dishes which were not upto the mark. But seeing the entire spread as one, I bet you would love it all. This must be one the best buffet I have had in a while. Worth every buck spent.

Ambiance:
Inspite of the hotel being well over a decades. Every little piece of the restaurant has been maintained spic and span. Another big plus is the live music which is part of the restaurant, which everyone seemed to enjoy.

Service:
Top Notch!

Price:
A buffet is priced at Rs 1610/- for a person after taxes. Worth every buck.
